Meet Kathy Schmidt
At the age of ten, Kathy Schmidt received her first sewing machine for Christmas and taught herself how to sew. She became so proficient at it that she began taking in sewing projects for extra money. Her love of sewing lead her to try something new as an adult: machine embroidery. She quickly developed a knack for it and began creating designs for fun. Her reputation spread, and soon she found herself making money creating designs that ranged from text and logos to elaborate and intricate embroidered art derived from little more than line drawings on a piece of paper. Her friends and family told her, “You have to go into business!” So, in 2012, she did.
Kathy loves the creativity involved in making an embroidered item, whether it’s something simple or extremely detailed. She gets a lot of joy out of making art out of sewing and enjoys putting smiles on people’s faces when they see her finished work.
Running a business in a small town like Fraser Lake means that many of her customers end up becoming friends. She likes the warm, friendly atmosphere that a big city just can’t match. She also appreciates the vast outdoors and scenery that characterize Fraser Lake. As an avid horseback rider and Fraser Lake Saddle Club member, she tries to get out and enjoy nature whenever she’s able.
