Meet Judy Hunter, Jeanette Brophy & Janet McClure
When Fraser Lake resident Judy Hunter was diagnosed with breast cancer, she soon discovered that there was limited support available for cancer victims and survivors in Fraser Lake. During a routine medical appointment, she casually mentioned to her doctor that she wished there was a cancer support group, and her doctor said, “Why don’t you start one?” So she took that message to heart and launched Fraser Lake and Area Cancer Support.
Judy survived her bout with cancer, and now offers support to others who have experienced cancer themselves or know someone who has. The group meets for a monthly lunch where group members can talk to others about their experiences in an environment of mutual understanding and respect. Janet McClure is one of the group’s early members and right-hand helper to Judy whose passion is evident in her deep and ongoing involvement in helping to facilitate the group. Jeanette Brophy is another key member with a passion for helping support those who have had cancer or whose lives have been touched by it. Jeanette pitches in with all aspects of the group from facilitating meetings to coordinating volunteers.
Caring. Supportive. Difference-Making.
Fraser Lake and Area Cancer Support are a grassroots, volunteer-driven support group made of like-minded individuals whose lives have been touched in some way by cancer. The group consists of cancer survivors, people currently battling cancer and people whose lives have been touched by cancer in friends and family.
Fraser Lake and Area Cancer Support meet every third Tuesday for lunch at the Fraser Lake Legion. Membership is open to anyone.
The Fraser Lake and Area Cancer Support group accepts donations of yarn. Any items made with this yarn are donated to organizations such at the Vanderhoof Safe House, Kordyban Lodge and Prince George Cancer Clinic.
