Meet Marilyn Pettie & Kara-Lee Silva
After staying home to raise her four sons for much of her adult life, Marilyn Pettie decided it was time for a new stage of life when her last son left home. So she went to school to become a barber and in 2001 she opened up 2001 Cuts. Several years later Kara-Lee, a licensed hairstylist who had also been a stay-at-home mom for many years, joined her in the business. They make a strong business team and their skills complement one another and have allowed Marilyn to grow her business.
Marilyn has called Fraser Lake her home for 30 years and all of her children grew up here. Marilyn always felt that Fraser Lake was a wonderful place to raise a family, and these days she is happy to welcome her seven grandchildren when they visit. One of the reasons that she appreciates being her own boss is the ability it gives her to schedule time off, which she does often so that she is able to go and visit her grandchildren regularly.
Both Marilyn and Kara-Lee are avid outdoors enthusiasts who make time to take part in their favourite outdoor recreational activities. Both are avid cross-country skiers, and Kara-Lee also enjoys snowboarding in the winter time. In the summer time both women like to go kayaking and Marilyn even recently purchased her own kayak. Like Marilyn, Kara-Lee is a family girl and she loves spending time with them when she's not working.
